So, I'm working on a job and had to pre-wash fabrics. No problem. I tested swatches first, as I should. They washed well, even stayed pretty flat, which was a bonus. So far, so good.
Then, of course, I forgot to serge the ends before I put the yardage in the wash. Here is the result with 2 of the 3 pieces:
Moral of the story: Shortcuts usually aren't!

Oooh, that looks very much like how my fabric comes out in the prewash! Hmmm, never thought of serging the edges. I have much to learn. Speaking of which - thanks for your WONDERFUL advice on embroidering text with paper... I'll be giving that a go pronto.

Any edge stitching will stop the raveling in the wash- hand, zig-zag, serge, even pinking. I just have to remember to do it! It doesn't really stop the twisting, but you don't lose fabric, or have the spaghetti mess.
